Michelle tuvo una semana difícil en la oficina. Estaba muy contenta porque el fin de semana finalmente comenzaba. Tuvo que trabajar hasta las 8 de la noche el jueves y el viernes y todavía había una cosa más que tenía que terminar durante el fin de semana, antes del lunes. Ella decidió que lo haría el domingo por la noche.

Michelle had a difficult week at the office. She was very glad that the weekend had finally begun. She had to work until 8 pm on Thursday and Friday and there was still one more thing she needed to finish on the weekend before Monday. She decided that she would take care of it on Sunday night.

Ella se despertó a las 7 am el sábado por la mañana, tomó una ducha y fue al gimnasio a hacer ejercicio. Después, comió un desayuno rápido en casa, revisó las noticias por internet y respondió a sus emails. Para el almuerzo, se encontró con unos amigos en un pequeño café, donde hablaron sobre lo ocurrido durante la semana y ella les actualizó sobre su relación con Alex. Les dijo que iría a visitar a sus padres en Nueva Jersey el domingo y que Alex vendría con ella por primera vez. Sus amigos le dijeron que no se preocupara y que todo saldría bien.

She woke up at 7 am on Saturday morning took a shower and went to the gym to work out. After that, she had a quick breakfast at home, checked the news on the internet and replied to her emails.  For lunch she met some friends at a small café where they talked about the week and she gave them an update about her relationship with Alex. She told them that she would be visiting her parents in New Jersey on Sunday and that Alex would come with her for the first time. Her friends told her not to worry and that everything would work out.

En la tarde, ella fue al supermercado y compró comestibles. Compró pollo, pasta, lechuga, tomate, zanahorias y pepino. También compró salsa para pasta y aderezo para ensaladas. Como está tratando de perder peso, ella no compró helado ni papas fritas. Por el contrario, compró algunos bananos, naranjas, manzanas, uvas y fresas. Después de llegar a casa, marinó el pollo y lo puso en la nevera para poderlo cocinar en el horno más tarde.

In the afternoon she went to the supermarket and shopped for groceries. She bought chicken, pasta, lettuce, tomato, carrots, and cucumber. She also bought pasta sauce and salad dressing. Since she is trying to lose weight, she didn’t buy any ice cream or potato chips. She bought some bananas, oranges, apples, grapes and strawberries instead. After she got home, she marinated the chicken and put it in the refrigerator so that she would be able to cook it in the oven later.

A las 5 de la tarde, se encontró con Alex y fueron a la clase de francés juntos. El tema de ese día fue el subjuntivo que es muy difícil para los hablantes de inglés. La única forma de aprenderlo es practicándolo  tan frecuentemente como sea posible, por esta razón  Alex y ella habían estado haciendo muchos ejercicios utilizando el subjuntivo. Después de la clase, fueron a la casa de Michelle a ver una película. Michelle puso el pollo en el horno y abrió una botella de vino para disfrutarla durante la película. La película era un film francés llamado “El armario” protagonizado por Gerard Depardieu y Daniel Auteuil. Como fue una gran comedia, ellos se rieron mucho, pero también aprendieron bastantes palabras y expresiones en francés.

At 5 pm, she met Alex and they went to their French class together. The topic of that day was the subjunctive which is very difficult for English speakers. The only way to learn it is to practice it as often as possible so she and Alex had been doing plenty of written exercises using the subjunctive. After the class they went home to Michelle’s house to watch a movie. Michelle put the chicken in the oven and opened a bottle of wine for them to enjoy during the movie. The movie was a French film called “The Closet”, starring Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil. As it was a great comedy, they laughed a lot but also learned plenty of new French words and expressions.
